Round Here.

Memorial Day Weekend was not exactly a time of relaxation around here.   Karen, Dad and I went back to the beach for one last cram session of work.

On the way into town, we stopped and scooped up some essential accessories.

Many a light fixtures were installed.

Beds were made.

Tile was installed.

Accessories hung.

Tables styled.

And much painting, spackling, scrubbing and moving in between.  We arrived home late Saturday night and I awoke to a little surprise Momma Squatter left us.  Aren’t they amazing???

The Princess and the F.R.O.G.

A few months ago, my niece Allie emailed me that she wanted a “cooler” place for her and her friends to hang out.  You see the F.R.O.G (Front Room Over the Garage) in their house was her designated area and it just didn’t meet her style.  Since she was a high school senior and my sister and brother in-law would be moving upon her graduation, we had a very tight budget to work within.  Here are some befores..
Allie and I worked around some of her favorite things… Her favorite color was turquoise and she wanted it to have a cool vibe.  Since we were on a limited budget, all of them items were wither DIY or on the cheap.  They live in Chapel Hill, NC, so everything was done virtually.  Here was the plan we worked up.
I received pictures from them after just a few changes and wow, what a difference a coat of paint and some elbow grease makes.
Keep up the good work, ladies!

Round Here

I finally got some cabinets for my laundry room.  (Ikea, of course.)

Bought these babies at Marshall’s for $4.99.  I also made a lot of progress in the Guest Bedroom…

I hung up some prints from Annie Flynn.
Finally got the bedding sitch squared away.
And will be hanging these ASAP.  Now let’s talk about this.
E had a Father-Daughter dance last Friday. First and foremost, the fact that I was able to get her out of sweatpants and a tee shirt deserves some serious props.  But how could this possibly be my little baby?     I can’t stand it.

Ikea to the Rescue (Again.)

I have been pinning lighting options for our guest bedroom for months now.  I was dead-set on pewter sconces over the nightstands just like these.
I even had the perfect pair picked out:
However, something in me couldn’t stomach spending $1,000 on two lights for a room we hardly use.
A few weeks ago, I was at Ikea and spotted these babies….  for $29.99 each!  Done and done.  Life’s all about choices, people.  Now I have more money to put towards my living room lighting budget!

Happy to Inspire.

While perusing on Pinterest I came across this picture.
Reminded me a lot of this
As it turns out, Shannon of GoogieMomma saw this picture of Lou’s room and used it as her inspiration to redesign her daughters’ room.
I am so happy that my work was able to inspire someone.  Shannon did a great job on her daughters’ room.  Check it out for yourself here.

O’verlays Giveaway.

Cheryle Rhuda and Danika Herrick were friends who saw a common an overlap in their interior design businesses; a lack on interesting materials to refurbish furniture.  The two have built an empire off of DIYer’s and their desire to champagne quality furniture on a beer budget.  Just look at some of these amazing furniture transformations that were created with O’verlays.

My Living Room Lamps.

As many of you saw in my Living Room Project mood board, I was planning for something like these Westwood Gold Lamps for my new Rast end tables.
But at $318 each, I think Mike would have a seizure. So, here’s how I got the look for MUCH less.  Remember these cable knit lamps from HomeGoods?
Well, obviously, I spray painted them.
I had to stray from my go-to which is Krylon’s Gold to Rustolium’s Brass to match the gold foil on the new shades I ordered.
As you can see these new black shades were bigger than the old navy ones
so I had to buy new harps too.  The old shades were two inches shorter than the new, so I increased the harp size from 8″ to 10″.
and voila!  I put them back together and couldn’t be happier with the final result.  And at $170 for both lamps versus the $636 that I would have paid for the Westwood lamps, I think Mike couldn’t be happier either!
