My Very Own Butterfly Collection.

If you have been reading this blog for sometime, you are well aware of my love of butterflies.  You may also have known that I was working on a wall of butterflies for my (work in progress) living room.  Well, here they are:
While I wanted a wall of butterflies, the whole idea of dead specimens creeped me out.. and ….. I wouldn’t want any of these beautiful creatures killed for my benefit.  Beleive it or not, these little guys are cut out of plastic.
After a long deliberation, I decided to arrange them by color.
I inherited this piano from my parents, and they inherited from my grandmother.  I took lessons on it as a little girl, and soon, E will be too.  We plan to move the piano on the wall to the left, and put these two chairs under the butterflies once they are reupolstered in turquoise linen.
They were so easy to put together… Here’s all it took:
6 of these cases from Michaels (I got them 50% off.)  They have a great grey linen backing.
16 Butterflies in each color.
And last but certainly not least, my trusty glue gun.
Because the cases are an irregular size I had to get custom mats.  I love the way the black inner mat finishes everything off.
And I also love that I now have my own collection of butterflies, and that not one single butterfly was harmed in the process.

The Wedge.

I am certainly a sucker for a wedge salad, but today, we are talking about the shoe.  Pondering back to my wardrobe choices, I rocked a wedge of some sort every day last week.  Then I looked back at some of the outfits that I have pulled together on this little blog, and there is a wedge in every single one.  Simply put-  the wedge is on my mind.
So, I have pulled a selection of my favorite wedges of the season.  I own # 7 and am in L-O-V-E, love.

Forgot About Father’s Day?

I love the gift of music.  I made a CD for each of my girls when they were born, and we mailed them out with their birth announcements.  Now each of them have their own “mix” which they are so proud of.   A few years ago, I made a playlist for Mike for Father’s Day that we will certainly be listening to on Sunday as we celebrate him.  Here are a few of the songs on the playlist.  Have you forgotten about Father’s Day?  Put a few of these babies on a CD and wrap it up for that man in your life.

Double Duty.

Last week was a tad bit stressful.  By now you all know that I carry this bag in the Summer.  Each night, as I rush out of my office to pick up the girls, I stash my laptop in my bag.  Well, it was one of those nights… Mike was out of town, we got home late and in between trying to help E with her homework and cooking dinner it wasn’t until I heard a crash that I realized Lou had climbed up on the counter to get a banana.  As I turned in fear, I saw it… My MacBook Pro sitting on the floor.  Luckily it was still in tact, but I was sitting on pins and needles as I fired her up.  The good news is that she worked.. the bad news is that it sounded like a helicopter was taking off in our kitchen.

So, after an overnight stay at the Apple Store, she’s as good as new.  (Umm, yes, a new hard drive and optical drive were needed.)  I laughed as my resident Genius told me that I should get a case…  Good to know, there are a bevy of stylish options to choose from.  Gone are the days of the black canvas bags for laptops… These babies are working double duty when it comes to protecting your electronics and keeping you in style.

Movin’ On Up.

It’s official. As of today, I have a First-Grader.  I am not sure how time went by so quickly, or how I can slow it down, but my baby graduates Kindergarten today.  Holy crap, did this year fly by!
First day of Kindergarten.
Thanksgiving.
God, that look I am giving her reminds me so much of my mother.  It’s official, I’ve become my mother, and she has become me– which means Mike is going to have his hands full with both of us.  Want to know why she’s getting “the look?”
Well, she just farted on Daddy.  Of course, her little sister thinks it’s hilarious.
Flatulence aside, my baby will conquer the world one day.  She’s got that “it” factor.  She’s an old soul.
Now if we could only get her to channel that energy and stop getting in trouble for talking in class, all would be right with the world.
Seriously, I have never met a kid that talks more than this one. She marches to the beat of her own drum.    She will never just “fit in.”  And that’s okay by me.   Today, we will celebrate her, and her inability to be quiet.  Congratulations, E Burger… We love you.

Progress.

Remember this update on Lou’s big girl room?  Well, I was finally able to paint her bed.  This bed has special meaning, it was mine when I was a little girl.  I had to prime it first.  The bed was originally white, but my brother painted it black when he inherited it for his bachelor pad in Georgetown.   Gone are his bachelor days… He’s now living in the burbs with his wife, Milena and baby girl, Olivia.  They didn’t need the bed in their new house and I thought it would be so great for Lou to have it.
It took me almost an entire day to paint this baby.  Here is is (back to white) with the primer.
… And the finished product.  I used Duron’s Melon Shine.  I love the color!
I am somewhat embarrassed to show this picture as there is still so much left to do on “Project Big Girl Room.” But we’ve come a long way, baby.  Here’s a peek at what that poor little girl was sleeping on for two months until her Momma painted her bed.
So uncomfortable.  It was two mattresses stacked together.  No wonder why she wouldn’t stay in her bed!
As you can see, her room is pretty small. Here are some shots of it when we were awaiting the arrival of it’s original occupant. Perfect for a crib!
A little more crammed with a Big Girl Bed…
But we are making progress.   I just picked up the green pillows and coverlet at HomeGoods for a grand total of $80. God, I love that store.   The “Anna” letters will be 86’ed.  I’m in the process of designing her new bedskirt and a few other really exciting changes are in the works.  The bookshelves should be done this week.  I am sorry to say that most of the fabrics that I used (I originally designed the nursery 6 years ago) are now discontinued.
