Double Duty.

Last week was a tad bit stressful.  By now you all know that I carry this bag in the Summer.  Each night, as I rush out of my office to pick up the girls, I stash my laptop in my bag.  Well, it was one of those nights… Mike was out of town, we got home late and in between trying to help E with her homework and cooking dinner it wasn’t until I heard a crash that I realized Lou had climbed up on the counter to get a banana.  As I turned in fear, I saw it… My MacBook Pro sitting on the floor.  Luckily it was still in tact, but I was sitting on pins and needles as I fired her up.  The good news is that she worked.. the bad news is that it sounded like a helicopter was taking off in our kitchen.

So, after an overnight stay at the Apple Store, she’s as good as new.  (Umm, yes, a new hard drive and optical drive were needed.)  I laughed as my resident Genius told me that I should get a case…  Good to know, there are a bevy of stylish options to choose from.  Gone are the days of the black canvas bags for laptops… These babies are working double duty when it comes to protecting your electronics and keeping you in style.

Summer Essentials.

I’ve filled you in on two of my Summer staples, well let me introduce you to the rest of the family… My Summer Essentials:

Home Decorator’s Collection.

Last week I received a new catalog for Home Decorator’s Collection.  While this catalog has been around for many years, I was never incredibly impressed with their products.  The only time that I ordered from them was in 2004.  I ordered a set of Louis Chairs that I was going to have reupholstered.  Well, they sent 4 of the chairs with a white wood frame and then told me that they were out of stock and couldn’t send the other two.  Needless to say, I was furious.  So after a “talk” with management, I received the additional two chairs for free (with a dark wood frame.)  What was I going to do with 4 white chairs, and 2 mahogany?… As it turns out, I painted the frames black.  As you can see from this picture (from last year), I never replaced the fabric, and now they have been booted from the dining room to make room for my mother’s dining room chairs.
So, (as I digress) I usually don’t pay their catalog much attention, but this one made me take another looksie.  And boy, am I glad that I did!  Looks like someone’s really upped their game!

Forever 21 Girls.

It’s no secret that I am a fan of Forever 21.  Well, were you aware that they now carry both girls and maternity?  The online selection leaves a bit to be desired, but if you have a store nearby I strongly urge you to visit.  Check out these adorable dresses that I picked up for my girls for $9.99.  (Sorry, pics were taken with my iPhone.)  I love how they each rocked them in their own style.  E put this ensemble together all by herself.  She popped on this flower pin from Crew Cuts that I completely forgot she owned.  Her Daddy made her put a skort on under the dress, as we were going to a birthday party at My Gym.  Still… she made it work!  I love that she feels the need to constantly add accessories.. that apple didn’t fall from the tree!

Daddy’s happy that  she’ll be “covered.”

A Marriage Made In Heaven.

Sunday is a special day marked on my calendar because two of my favorite brands are coming together.

Calypso St. Barth has designed a line of clothing and home goods that will be sold in Target stores starting May 1.   Items are all below $79.99– quite a change from their usual price point.   These babies will sell out quickly, so get them while they are hot!

Such Is My Life.

For some reason, as luck would have it, whenever I get something new that I am really excited about, disaster strikes.  I get a new car, it gets scratched. I bought a new pair of earrings out in LA, they were stolen out of my luggage. The list of terrible, horrible, no good, very bad things goes on and on.
This little baby was no exception.
A few months ago, I bought this rug on Overstock.com for our foyer.

I had a brilliant idea to have it monogrammed to spruce it up.

(Nobody’s fault, just coincidence) No more than 3 minutes after laying it down, Mike and our friend Dave wheeled an 800 lb. TV that we were getting rid of RIGHT THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF MY RUG.  Argh!  I just about died.  Here are the results.

People tell me that the lines will “work themselves out.”  Does anybody have any suggestions?
