Kid-Friendly Dining Room Chairs.

Last Summer I posted about some new upholstery items that were delivered to the house.  In that delivery where our dining room chairs.  With all of the holiday entertaining we did, I was able to really put these chairs to the test, and couldn’t be more pleased.
We inherited my parent’s dining room set a few years ago.  I loved the table and tried for so long to make the chairs work, but they were just SO not me.  I needed something on the cheap.  Enter Home Decorator’s Collection.
I bought 3 sets of these
Covered the fronts in this inexpensive faux ostrich leather.  So great with kids!
and of course, added brass nailheads.
Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too?  I got the fabric that I love and a kid-friendly dining chair all in one!
By the way, the ostrich fabric holds up fantastically.  I was able to wipe off multiple DRIED red wine stains off of these chairs over the holidays.  Not a trace of wine now!

Purple Velvet.

I am looking for the perfect purple velvet for that pesky bench in E’s Room.  I have ordered a few dozen samples, keeping my fingers crossed that one of them is the perfect shade.  In my search, I came across this chair from a 300 square foot apartment that Nick Olsen designed in Brooklyn.
That is right… 300 SQUARE FEET!  That man is amazing.  Look at everything he was able to cram in this space, and it doesn’t even look slightly crowded.

Funky & Fresh.

Can we talk about Spoonflower for a minute?  If you are not aware, it’s a site where you can design your own fabric OR buy fabric from artists who have already created their own.  I am in love.  I was getting SO tired of the same old fabrics popping up everywhere.  I am using a ton of Spoonflower fabrics on upcoming projects.  And I’ve been getting the nicest emails from the artists after purchasing their design.  So intimate.  My only beef is that the fabric samples cost $5 per swatch.  Pretty hefty price tag- I think I’ve spent over $150 in samples so far.  Here are some of my faves:

Bit By Bit…

Guess what we finally put together last weekend….

I will post a full tutorial next week.  And in other news, my turquoise linen fabric came, and I couldn’t be more disappointed.  I paid $200 to have it backed, and the manufacturer is insisting it has an acrylic backing… I sent it back last week to have knit backing added.   Learn from my mistake… Always go with a knit backing.
I’ll give you one guess who is going to be pissed when these are reupholstered…..

Our Kitchen: The Skinny.

A few months ago, I gave you all a sneak peek at our kitchen.    Thank you to everyone for all of the sweet comments and emails.  I still receive a few questions about some of the products that we used, so here is the skinny:
The paint is Benjamin Moore’s Satin Impervo in Black.  It’s durable (this kitchen was painted two years ago), and gives the perfect finish.
We chose the Gilmore Knobs from Restoration Hardware.
As well as the Gilmore pulls.
The Ikat bowls are from Anthropologie.  I am sorry to say that they are sold out.
The rug is from Overstock.com.  Quite a steal at $127.99!
The fabric is Kelly Wearstler’s Imperial Trellis from Schumaker.
I bought the clam shell bowl at Kohl’s years ago.  You can find similar ones at Z Gallerie.
The soap dispenser is from Target.
I hope that answers all of your questions.  I am so glad that so many of you love our kitchen as much as we do!
