Fresh Perspective: Mona Ross Berman

Last week while reading House Beautiful on the plane home from California, I was introduced to the work of Mona Ross Berman, she had me at hello.  What a fresh perspective on classic design.  These are pictures from a New Jersey beach house that she designed for a client.
I love the bright, cheery and causal mix of textures and colors she uses.  It’s so versatile, like the LBD that can be dressed up, or dressed down.  I think her designs would suit so many styles.

Tantalizing Textiles: Mod Green Pod.

Last week while I was in Austin, I ate at the preppy seafood restaurant Perla’s on South Congress.  Upon entering the ladies room, I fell in love… with the wallpaper.  The walls were donned in a beautiful Butterfly Jubilee.  (Sidebar: As many of you know I have a love for butterflies, and it demands that this wallpaper go in my powder room.)   The hostess kindly put me in touch with the owners of Perla’s who told me that the wallpaper was from an Austin-based company called Mod Green Pod.
Here is a little taste of some more of their goodies:
Mod Green Pod is a member of the Organic Trade Association.  All wallpapers are vinyl-free and made from water-based inks.

Double Trouble.

Look what Momma just scored off of Craigslist… two wingback chairs- $175 for both!   These will go in our living room, and I have yet to decide what fabric to reupholster them with.  I am for sure painting the legs high-gloss black,  As you may know by now, I have a hankering for all things pink….  I would LOVE to cover them in this pink linen from Highland Court…. I can’t wait to hear what Mikie has to say about that one!
Remember that pink chair that I fell in love with at the Design Center?  I can’t stop thinking about the possibilities!

What do you think?

Chevronmania.

More widely known as herringbone,  the chevron print has become extremely popular and can be found practically anywhere, on practically anything.  I had always dreamed of one day having herringbone floors.  Seeing as how I have perfectly good hardwood floors (okay they may not be what I would have picked if I built our house, but with two kids and a dog there is no way we are refinishing them.)  I digress..  for now I can get snippets of chevron everywhere I look, and at every price range.  I would LOVE to have a pair of curtains in Rubie Green’s East Village in Raspberry, but for now, I will settle for the Ellie bag, at $24.

Here are the chevron items that made it onto Kiki’s List:

1. Lucite Chevron Tray– $45
2. Zig Zag Pillow Cover– $13  ON SALE
3. Vibe Tecno Rug– $85-$319
4. Zig Zag Dog Bowl– $14.95-$24.95
5. Zig Zag Swimsuit-$79
6. Ikat-Chevron Pillow Cover– $38
7. Chevron Calling Cards– $24 for 48
8. Girls’ Chevron Dress– $44
9. Chevron Frame– $26
10. Chevron Drum Lampshade– $75.95
11. The Ellie Bag– $24

Field Trip: The Washington Design Center.

Last week I took a field trip to The Washington Design Center with my dear friend Aimee. We were there for 4 hours, and honestly it went by in a flash- I could have stayed for days. In case you are not familiar with the WDC, it is 7 floors of designer showrooms open to the trade. We had some amazing finds. Aimee is expecting a little girl in early November so we had a lot of fun searching to fabrics for the nursery. I was looking for some fabrics for my bedroom and kitchen. We found what we were looking for and so much more.

By far, my favorite part was the design house which featured a different design team to create each room. Here were my faves:
Foyer- Kelley Proxmire Love the Honeycomb Flooring!
Family Room- Rita St. Clair Aren’t those Donghia Suzani cushions amazing? Such rich colors.
Garden RoomMichael Roberson Yes, that is faux grass flooring.
Living RoomDavid Herchik & Richard Loom Absolutely love the textures in this room.
Master BedroomOlvia Demetriou Adamstein So modern and clean.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of the eye candy that I found. Amazing textures, gorgeous fabrics and unbelievable furniture…(Sigh.) Oh if that money tree would grow already!
