Jonathan Adler.

A few days before our trip to New York, I received an email that made me SQUEAL with joy.  I was invited to Jonathan Adler’s NYC Studio for an event that he was co-hosting with Diet Pepsi.  It seemed almost serendipitous that this happened to be on the very same day that we were arriving in New York. I felt SO guilty taking time away from my special trip with E, but when I presented my friend Mae with my dilemma, she insisted that I go and she took the girls to Time Square for the afternoon.  (Talk about a great friend, eh?)  E, by the way didn’t even flinch at the thought of being without me.
Our train pulled into Penn Station, we ran to the hotel and I slapped on some deodorant and fresh clothes and hopped into a cab headed for downtown.  Unfortunately, due to a major traffic jam I was a half an hour late.  I ran upstairs, wiped the sweat off of my brow and into the studio I went.  When I arrived I was in awe at all of the color and textures before me.

Approximately three minutes after my arrival the wonderful ladies who were sponsoring the event told me that they decided to “shake up” the plan and that we were doing one-on-one interviews with JA.  “I’m sorry, WHAT?”  and within two more minutes I had a guy snaking a mic up my shirt and cameras in my face…… and there I was…… standing with Jonathan….. thinking “Damn, I wish I didn’t wear these wedges, I look like I am about to EAT him.”  Seriously, I look like a wookie standing next to him.  But never mind that.   It was time to pull myself together…   THINK, DAMNIT, THINK….. Questions, questions, what questions to ask?….. After fumbling through my words I was actually able to get some great dets out of the domestic god……

  • Favorite Color:  He said it was Sophie’s Choice… but Orange (knew it!)
  • Favorite Drink:  The Jonathan Adler (Iced Tea and Milk)  I’m pretty sure I gave him the “who farted?” look when he said that.
  • Favorite Flower:  Ranunculous  (at this point I told him that we were soul mates.)
  • Favorite JA Product:  Peacock Shoehorn (That one surprised me!)
Jonathan was jut as warm, witty and hilarious as I expected.  I had such a great time!

So, now to the real reason that we were there… Jonathan is creating these Limited Edition straws for Diet Pepsi.  They will only be available in select Target Stores nationwide this summer.  We were each sent home with a set.. and they are super cute!  Of course the girls wanted to use them and I immediately snarked “NO!”… Seriously, I might have those straws buried with me when I die.

We’re Back!

We are back!  After an entire day of attempting to dig myself out of a black hole of email, I have barely made a dent- but it was totally worth it.  New York was A-MAAAZING!  We had the best time!  I owe a BIG FAT thank you to my friend Mae, who took E to Times Square on Thursday so that I could hang out with this guy…

Of course this one picture is annoyingly blurry… I got to hang with Jonathan Adler and his peeps in their NYC Studio… which was re-damn-dic by the way.  Here are a few shots of JA and his team hard at work.
I was back on my way uptown to meet the girls and I ran into this guy…. Not nearly as impressive.
We packed so much into this trip….
Top of the Rock
E got her first American Doll.
Dylan’s Candy Bar.

Wicked was simply breathtaking.

A morning in Central Park.

Lunch in Little Italy.

The best part about this trip was spending some QT with this girl.  When we were leaving she informed me that when she grows up she wants to be a street performer in New York City…  Lord, that child.
Unfortunately, due to the storms on the east coast, it took us nine hours to get home and then we were off to Savannah for some fireworks and fun.

We were even able to squeeze in a day trip to Charleston, which included my three favorite pastimes, drinking, eating and shopping!
Now it’s back to reality!

Wicked Excited.

I am so incredibly excited.  I have just booked a “girls weekend” for E and I with some friends to take New York City by storm.   After a million years I am finally going to see Wicked on Broadway and I can’t wait!
Has anyone else taken their little girls to NYC for the weekend?  Any must see’s? (Besides the obvious…) We will be staying in Midtown.

The Happiest Friggin’ Place on Earth.

After our Spring Break plans blew up, my sister was kind enough to let the girls and I crash their Spring Break.  The girls were so happy to be with their cousins and made memories that will last a lifetime.

We planned to spend three days at Disney, but after two full days I couldn’t take any more.  Lou and I went to Dad’s house while E stayed with Karen’s family to brave Hollywood Studios.  Word to the wise:  Don’t EVER go Disney on Spring Break.  I think that we maybe got on 4 rides each day. Although it is the “Happiest Place on Earth”  I have never been happier than when I left Orlando.   We had to laugh as we left the park at 11:00 the last night everyone looked absolutely MISERABLE.  There were a few bright moments, and they made it all worth it.

This trip has validated what I already know about myself.  I hate crowds, waiting and long drives.  I am more of a sit and relax on the beach kind of girl.  And after escaping Orlando, we were able to get in a little R & R.

And then there was the dreaded 14 hour drive home.  Just so you know, there is no “off” button on this one.   Uggggg…..

A Fall Retreat.

This weekend was filled with birthday parties, errands and a flooded basement for the Salmons.  After a long Saturday filled with a new sump pump and a steep plumbers bill, on Sunday we headed out for our annual retreat to Great Country Farms.
It was 80 degrees in DC yesterday.  Not exactly fall-like weather, but we didn’t let it stop us!

This was their cousin Olivia‘s first trip to the pumpkin patch.  She loved it!

Helen came along too.

We picked out the perfect pumpkins, and my little goblins are eager to start carving.
