I had been searching for the perfect side tables for our living room for what seems like forever. \u00a0I saw a few Rast DIY’s on various blogs and figured if I couldn’t buy them, I’d make them. \u00a0Much to Mike’s dismay, this was a project that I (ahem)\u00a0we<\/i>\u00a0were going to take on. \u00a0These tables were a true labor of love.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u00a0I thought it would be easy, but it took many<\/i> weekends and trips to Home Depot. \u00a0 Here’s what we started with: two\u00a0Ikea Rast Dressers<\/a>\u00a0 (At $34.99 the price can’t be beat!)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a0and a cart full of spray paint. \u00a0That little spray grip was a lifesaver, because I practically went through every last can of spray paint that you see below.<\/div>\n
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0Here is the how-to. \u00a0You may want to eliminate some of these steps and learn from my mistakes.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
1.) Assemble the bases, but not the drawers (or have your husband do it while he is watching football.)<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
2) Spray on on two coats of primer. \u00a0BE SURE TO SAND THOROUGHLY between coats. (I wish I had) \u00a0I recommend sanding blocks versus sandpaper for this one.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
3.) I sprayed on a lacquer and I am not sure if it was the fact that it was 20 degrees outside, or that the lacquer wasn’t cutting it (see those spots?) After six cans of black lacquer I had to switch gears.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
4.) \u00a0After a SERIOUS sanding, I repainted everything with a black oil-based polyurethane. \u00a0I used a roller to apply it. \u00a0Polyurethane takes at least 12 hours to dry. \u00a0I gave it 2 days. \u00a0(Helpful hint:<\/b>\u00a0Skip the lacquer paint and go right to this step.)<\/div>\n
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

5.) Next I Sanded and painted my O’verlays<\/a> with Krylon Gold Spray paint. I love the rose-gold undertones in that paint. \u00a0I also used that paint for my Intaglio frames<\/a> in the dining room. \u00a0 I let them dry for a day and sealed with a clear lacquer.<\/p>\n

6.) Attempted to assemble the dressers. \u00a0Mike had to bail me out on this one.<\/p>\n

7.) Installed 12 of\u00a0this brass hardware<\/a>. (Burnished Bronze, 51 mm x 43 mm)<\/div>\n
8.) Super glued the O’verlays on as well as a few of my fingers together.<\/div>\n
