My heart is breaking today for the Carmical family who lost their sweet baby Declan early this morning. Thank you to all of you who have been keeping him in your prayers. Last night our family had the privilege of attending a candlelight vigil to pray for Declan at the Carmicals\u2019 home. Words cannot describe the emotions that filled that street. What a beautiful service for a beautiful little boy. <\/p>\n

When it came time to pray, the crowd was asked if they\u2019d like to say anything. One neighbor stood up and perfectly described how Declan, although just shy of a year old, left a huge mark on this world. She said that we live in a community of affluence\u2026 we are blessed. Declan brought this community back together (like all communities should be.) He made you smile at passerby, think about how you can help others (and actually do it) and hold your kids a little tighter. You see, Declan was not just a gift to the Carmical and DiLoretta families, he was a gift to us all.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Over 4,000 people connected daily over a blog<\/span><\/a> that Sherri and Stan set up to notify friends and family on Declan’s progress. I know that I (as well as each member of my family) have been inspired by not only Declan, but the entire Carmical family. So sweet baby Declan, if you are listening up in heaven, know what an impact you made on so many people down here on earth. Oh, and I\u2019ve also talked to my #1 guardian angel and asked her to take good care of you. You will be missed. Rest in peace, sweet boy.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Below is a beautiful prayer that was said at the vigil. I was so touched by it, I thought it might help others to cope with such a loss.<\/span><\/span>

I\u2019ll lend you for a little while, a<\/span> <\/span><\/span> child of mine, God said<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
For you to love the while he lives<\/span> a<\/span><\/span>nd mourn for when he\u2019s dead.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
It may be six or seven years,<\/span> o<\/span><\/span>r forty-two or three.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
But will you, till I call him back<\/span> t<\/span><\/span>ake care of him for me?<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
He\u2019ll bring his charms to gladden you, and – should his stay be brief –<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
You\u2019ll have his lovely memories<\/span> a<\/span><\/span>s a solace for your grief.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I cannot promise he will stay<\/span> f<\/span><\/span>or all from earth returns, <\/span><\/div>\n
But there are lessons taught below<\/span> <\/span><\/span>I want this child to learn.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I\u2019ve looked the whole world over<\/span> i<\/span><\/span>n my search for teachers true.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
And from all beings that crowd life\u2019s land,<\/span> <\/span><\/span>I have chosen you.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Now, will you give him all your love?<\/span> <\/span><\/span>Nor think the labor vain.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Nor hate me when I come to take<\/span> t<\/span><\/span>his lent child back again.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I fancied that I heard you say<\/span> <\/span><\/span>\u201cDear Lord, Thy will be done.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
For all the joys Thy child will bring<\/span> t<\/span><\/span>he risk of grief we\u2019ll run.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
We will shelter him with tenderness, we\u2019ll love him while we may –<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
And for the happiness we have known, forever grateful stay.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
But should the angels come for him much sooner than we planned.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
We\u2019ll brave the bitter grief that comes<\/span> a<\/span><\/span>nd try – to understand.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
