Too Soon.

It was a hard to get out of bed this morning. I don’t normally make a habit of talking about my day job on this blog. Today, I will make an exception.  For four years I have worked for a company that I love.  Before starting here the only Apple product I ever owned was an iPod.  Now, things are different. These products have changed my life, and the leader of this company has changed the way that I think.  An inspiration to us all, Steve was a visionary, and will sorely be missed.  One thing that people forget is that behind this corporate figure is a husband and a father, who won’t get to see his children get married, or kiss his wife goodnight ever again.
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.

Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.

Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice.

And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.

They somehow already know what you truly want to become.

Everything else is secondary.”

Words to live by.  Rest in peace, SJ.

E’s Party Q & A.

A few of you have emailed me questions about E’s Party.  Hopefully this post will answer them.
All of the instruments on the cake were made from fondant.  The zebra pattern at the bottom was actually a zebra ribbon.  After explaining the design to Kristy, this is the sketch that she came up with.
Pretty true to life, right?  Isn’t she amazing?
The invitations were made in MS Word.  The font is Taller Evolution.  The invitation paper and envelopes are from Paper Source, and the Zebra paper is from Michael’s.
The Back Stage Passes were made in MS Word.
The “Rock n’ Rolls are actually Tropical Lemonheads.    I found them at the Dollar Tree, and picked them because of the colors, not knowing how they tasted.  I have to say, they were the hit of the party.  They taste like jelly beans.

My dress and belt (both on sale now, of course) are from Anthropologie.  E’s shirt is from Crewcuts.  It seems to be sold out, but they have a similar one with long sleeves here.

I think that’s everything.  Thanks so much for all of your emails and kind words.  This party was so much fun to create.

Put Your Name On It.

It’s no secret that I love Ikea.  Here’s another one of my favorite Ikea hacks.  Has anyone checked out their line of Ikea Family travel bags? They are great quality for a fraction of the cost.  E picked out a backpack at the beginning of the school year.  What a great bag- it’s so well thought out, there pockets for everything!  The backpacks start at $19.95 and the toiletry cases are $7.95.  I took them to the Stitching Station at the mall (I need to find a better source for embroidery– it’s highway robbery over there.)  Look at how cute they turned out!
E’s back to school gear.
One for Anna… It had to be blue, of course.
Daddy was in desperate need of a replacement.
A case full of sunscreen for the beach bag.
They even make great gifts…
Just fill them up with goodies for the birthday girl or boy.

Frame It: Vintage Scarves.

Domino
In sourcing pieces for my next room transformation (our guest bedroom) I have fallen in love with the idea of framing a vintage scarf over the bed.  Last night on Etsy, I bought this… Isn’t she gorgeous?

4-0.

Today my husband turns 40.  He insisted that there be no parties, or major celebrations… that he just wanted to turn 40 quietly.  While I am respecting his decision, I would like to take today to celebrate him.  I could not ask for a better husband or father for my girls.   I have never seen a father who shares the closeness with his daughters that he does.  I am so grateful for the bond that they share.  So today, Michael Salmon, we celebrate you and your 14,605 days of life. (Including leap years of course!)
